    Tips to consider for a great squat. 1. Learn how to do a BW squat over and over to depth. 2. Work on mobility of shoulders - ankles - hips. 3. Set hands up first. 4. Whether low or high bar do the save thing over and over. 5. Brace while under the bar. Squeee the bar/pretend to bend it. 6. Avoid too many steps back. 7. Feel the floor with you feet 8. Avoid looking down. Look either straight ahead or slightly up. 9. Everyone sits differently, but the bar path needs to stay the same. 10. Keep your brace the entire time, until you have come up completely out of your squat. As for progressing, slow and steady will always win. MASTER YOUR FORM.

    I always had the best gains with longer high volume workouts. It seemed like the people who were always talking about hitting short intense workouts 45 minutes or less never really got those gains. I had at least 5 different people in college ask to workout with me and by the time we hit about an 1hr 15min they’d start gassing out and always bring up 30-45 minute workouts they heard about from random UA-cam gurus and stuff. I can see how those can be appealing to people who are new to the gym and just need some point to get started, but I always got better pumps and gains with high volume and adequate rest between sets rather than all those supersets and minimal exercises. Their lack of results could also be they didn’t know what the fuck they were doing though, but based off of my single anecdote I’m a believer in higher volume. Also I’m really glad you’re calling out the Colorado experiment. I remember when I started getting really serious about lifting around 8 years ago I used to see UA-cam fitness channels hype it up like some kind of magic. They really were able to fool generations of people into thinking there was some simple drug free key to loosing fat while putting on pounds of muscle.

    I've had the greatest gains in my life during the last two years. I first dieted from 280 to 215. No, I did NOT lose muscle...because I had none. I trained consistently from age 13 to 28. Gave up for two years, got fat. Then, over the past 8 months, I've put on 17lbs of actual solid weight, while also getting leaner, with results documented with dexa scans. So, what did I do? Cycling carbs, moderate protein, low fat. I've also been running only John Meadows programs (yes, I have spent several hundred dollars to actually BUY them). His programs are truly incredible. I had amazing progress while using DC training, but I was always beat up...but Johns sequencing and periodization are something special.

    Functional strength ;) I'm an old man building a homestead. I'm looking for longevity and the physical capacity to do the work on my farm ;) Competition is nowhere on my radar, but I can't deny there's some vanity in wanting to be a pretty strong old guy ;)

    Interesting data points there. I'd be considered weak compared with powerlifters with where I am now after lifting only for a year for fitness, but I'm aiming to at least get around the middle of the bell curve for folks who are in 220lbs or so weight class. And at the moment I'm about halfway there towards the middle of the bell curve, so this gives me a good way forward in terms of progression. Also, the full list of strength standards that's linked to in the description tells me that the account where the data is stored is no longer active (as at June 2024).

    I like the evidenced-based content. It sorts all the bro-science into three categories: 1. Bullshit that comes from a game of telephone where the source was a scam. 2. Stuff that isn't bullshit but has a relatively small effect size, maybe try it if shit gets stale. 3. Stuff that absolutely works until it doesn't but start here while you learn the nuances of your own body. Also, the Bros never seem to cover how to minimize injury risk for people new to the sport. We aren't all 25 year olds made of rubber and magic.

  • @bluekrazykris
    @bluekrazykris 6 годин тому

    Something that I've been thinking about is instead of finding the limit to human strength in our current modern day species, what about coming up with a new theoretical human species that's even more efficient, stronger, smarter than us? The average male for this species is as strong as 3-4 grown adult trained men of our current species. Then you slap on military training, weight training, and MMA training to this new species. Oof. You basically get Batman but he also uses guns. But the main thing, this new species isn't overly large in mass and don't look like modern day strongmen. The average male is running around at 170-180 lbs, still retaining our insane agility and flexibility but of course is several times stronger than us.

    Wow this is really good content. This isn't something I would have said a year ago when I was following Mentzer training. In fact I was probably one of the ones that was critical of this channel. People can change, people can wake up, people can grow up and admit they were wrong. Such was the case with me.

    The reason huge bodybuilders get so big and this is a secret no massive freaky bodybuilder wants the general public to know ..all these huge bodybuilders had to start somewhere ..they were once like you or me ,just like the average guy on the street ..yes they trained with weights ..but so did you , so did the average guy on the street , yet none of us ever got the muscular development of these guys .no matter "how much" or in the laws of Mike Mentzer "how little" we trained .. ..so if volume doesn't work , and High intensity doesn't work ..then what the hell are they doing !!...? you might try training 7 days per week ..or even day and night ..you might up your diet to 20,000 calories per day and all you get is fat ..so what is it ...even taking steroids and although you will make gains ,but nothing like these guys ....so what are we left with ..?what do they know that we dont ...? some might say genetics ..but that is a cop out ..remember a bodybuilders motto is to train like your life depended on it ..genetics do not do that ..i was almost going to give up after 20 years of weight training ,thinking "oh i dont have the genetics " or "oh i dont train hard enough " and so on ..that is until i traveled to India and found a small back street gym ..on the bench with 650 lb was a giant ..huge ..240lb of muscle , no fat and only 5'2 in height ..he was incredible ,the largest most muscular man i have ever seen ,..a man by the name "Muhammad Yusuf" ..well to cut a long story short ,we got talking and he showed me some photos of himself before he lifted weights ..skinny ..so thin its unbelievable ..he told me the Secret on one condition ...that i keep it to myself ,i was not to tell anyone no matter who .a secret only the huge bodybuilders know and that he would only tell me it if i meet up with him at a local bar in the evening ,the reason being , he did not want any members of the gym listening in and finding out the secret...so at 8pm i met him in a local bar ,we bought a few beers and he told me to take the lone table in the dark corner ,separated from every other table with just a single candle burning in the darkness ,and away from any other person being able to hear and what he told me blew my mind !!! i or we have been staring at it in the face ..all those years of wasted effort ,20 years in my case !! ..if only i had known this ...i would have been huge !! .well i have decided to tell you all ..i was going to write a book and get it published , i did actually finish the book but i thought of all those who are failing to gain massive muscle for something so simple .. .i think this secret has gone on for far too long , so i am going to tell you ,....... "When you take your supplement powders , protein pills etc etc do not take them with water !! water dilutes them and so you are not getting the benefits of the supplement. 1 Reply

    I couldn't even bench 300 because of a sharp pain in right shoulder so never benched over 275 for 5 but my auto mechanic who was 5' 8" 260 solid who never lifted a weight could bench 500, lifting heavy engine parts made him strong. He just didn't like lifting weights..

    Frank Zane, Clarance Bass, Sergio Olivia, and many, many others said that Jones knew a lot about bodybuilding and as a matter of fact all of them visited him in Florida to pick his brain about training. Granted the Mentzer brothers and Boyer Coe were on Jones' payroll but all the others were not. Jones knew the exact purpose and function of every muscle, which is a hell of a lot more than I could say about Joe Weider. He also trained pro football players such as Mercury Morris and many others.
